Hawaiian Airlines announced last week that they would allow their loyalty program members to redeem airline miles for a mail-in test kit. This is Hawaiian’s latest effort to encourage air traveler responsibility and make travel to the islands easier – last month they implemented the Safe Travels program designed to cut down on the state’s stringent 14-day quarantine requirement.
The test kit is mailed to travelers to collect a saliva sample, which they can do by following along with a video tutorial. The sample is then shipped express to a lab and analyzed within 24 hours of the sample’s receipt. Hawaiian air estimates the whole process will take less than 72 hours.
You can join HawaiianMiles for free. The program operates like most airline loyalty programs, and offers one redeemable mile for every mile flown. The mail-in Covid-19 test will cost you 14,000 miles or you can purchase the test for $119.
Other airlines have Covid-19 testing programs in place.
